Right Triangle Solver
Solving right triangles for fixture layout, angle setting, and bolt hole patterns.
What It Solves
The Right Triangle Solver computes all sides and angles of a right triangle from any two known values. Enter any combination of Side A (opposite), Side B (adjacent), Hypotenuse (C), or Angle α (in degrees) — the calculator fills in all remaining values plus the triangle's area. This is indispensable for fixture layout, angle block calculations, bolt hole patterns, and verifying setups on sine bars.
Live SVG Diagram
As you enter values, a proportionally-accurate SVG triangle diagram updates in real time. The diagram labels sides A, B, and C, shows the right-angle marker, and scales to fit the available space. This visual feedback helps confirm you have the correct triangle orientation before committing to a setup.
Formulas Used
The solver uses standard trigonometric identities: Pythagorean theorem (a² + b² = c²), sine (sin α = a/c), cosine (cos α = b/c), tangent (tan α = a/b), and their inverses (asin, acos, atan2). All calculations use JavaScript's native Math functions for accuracy. Angles are displayed in degrees; internal math uses radians.
Common Use Cases
Setting a sine bar angle: Enter the desired angle and the sine bar length (Side B) to find the gage block stack height (Side A). Bolt circle layout: Enter the radius and angle between holes to find X-Y coordinates. Fixture offsets: Enter two measured dimensions to find the angular error.
