Shift Configuration
Defining shift schedules, labels, and exceptions for accurate time-based tracking.
Why Configure Shifts
Shift configuration tells JobLine.ai when your shifts start and end. This information is used for: determining which handoffs belong to which shift, calculating shift-level statistics, filtering analytics by shift, and generating accurate utilization metrics. Without shift configuration, time-based analytics use default 8-hour blocks which may not match your actual schedule.
Defining Shifts
Navigate to Settings → Shifts. Click "Add Shift" to define each shift your organization uses. For each shift, enter: a Name (e.g., "1st Shift"), a Label (e.g., "Day"), a Start Time (e.g., 06:00), and an End Time (e.g., 14:30). Common configurations include two 12-hour shifts, three 8-hour shifts, or a rotating pattern. The shifts you define apply organization-wide by default but can be overridden per team.
Shift Labels
Labels are short identifiers used in analytics filters, handoff records, and scheduling views. Common labels include: Day, Swing, Night, A-Shift, B-Shift, Weekend. Labels make it easy to select and compare shifts without remembering exact times. Choose labels that match the terminology your team already uses on the shop floor.
Overnight Shifts
If a shift spans midnight (e.g., Night Shift from 22:00 to 06:00), set the end time to the next-day time. The system correctly handles the day boundary and attributes handoffs and production data to the correct shift even when the shift crosses midnight.
Holidays and Exceptions
Mark specific dates as holidays or exceptions in the shift calendar. On exception dates, the normal shift schedule does not apply. This prevents false "missed handoff" alerts on days when the shop is closed and ensures that productivity analytics are not skewed by non-production days. You can also define reduced schedules (e.g., a half-day shift on the day before a holiday).
