Creating an Organization
How to set up your organization, what it means, and configuration options.
What Is an Organization?
An organization is the top-level container for all your data in JobLine.ai. It represents your company, facility, or shop. Everything — teams, stations, work orders, users, settings, and billing — lives within an organization. Data is strictly isolated between organizations; no user in one org can see data from another org, and no admin can cross this boundary.
When to Create vs. Join
Create a new organization if you are the first person from your company to use JobLine.ai. Join an existing organization if a colleague has already set one up — they will provide you with an invite code. Most production-floor workers should join, not create. If you are unsure whether your company already has an org, ask your manager or IT department before creating a new one to avoid duplicate orgs.
Organization Setup Steps
During creation, you provide: Company Name (displayed in headers and reports), Industry Type (helps configure default settings), and Time Zone (used for shift scheduling and timestamp display). All of these can be changed later in Settings → Organization. The user who creates the organization is automatically assigned the Org Admin role.
Data Isolation and Security
Your organization's data is isolated at every level — database queries, API calls, and UI rendering all enforce organization boundaries. This means even if two organizations use the same station names or work order numbers, there is no conflict or data leakage. Row-level security policies in the database ensure that users can only access data belonging to their organization, regardless of how they access the system.
Single vs. Multiple Organizations
Most companies need only one organization. However, if you operate multiple independent facilities with separate staff and processes, you may create a separate org for each. Users can belong to multiple organizations but can only be active in one at a time. Switching organizations is done from the Profile page. Billing is per-organization.
