    Lockout / Tagout

    Standard sequence

    1. Prepare for shutdown
    2. Shut the equipment down
    3. Isolate all energy sources
    4. Apply locks and tags
    5. Verify zero-energy state
    6. Perform the work

Zero-energy verification is the step that operators skip at their own risk. Always try to start after isolation to confirm the machine cannot energize.
